Cambric Systems

Software that puts patients first and helps the NHS and healthcare providers save vital time and money.

Background

Cambric Systems (Cambric) has been working with the NHS for over 20 years, delivering critical patient information to clinicians and healthcare providers on the ward, in the clinic and out in the community.

Mission

Cambric’s mission is to enable healthcare providers to put patients first, without increasing their own workloads or putting extra pressure on their systems. Cambric’s mission is to enable healthcare providers to put patients first, without increasing their own workloads or putting extra pressure on their systems. Its close working relationship with NHS Scotland has derived unique insights into the complex challenges involved in upgrading to digital systems and processes.

This experience has culminated in the development of Morse, a platform that provides joined-up patient care. The Morse app enables healthcare professionals to download, access and update patient data anywhere. A cost-benefit analysis carried out by a district nursing service with more than 430 Morse users showed that the platform reduced nurses’ workload by over 34,000 hours a year, saved £730,000 plus £39,000 in travel costs, and led to a 35% increase in patient contacts.

It also improved workload management, transparency, reporting and decision-making, as well as patient and clinician safety. Technical benefits include the ability to update patient information offline, automatically pushing it back to third-party systems once a secure internet connection is established. By integrating with a wide range of systems, Cambric can create an umbrella model that feeds data from multiple sources into a single record.

With increasing pressure on NHS staff and board budgets, the bottom line is that Cambric Systems’ solutions deliver tangible improvements.

Future

Cambric is excited to take the results from its successful work with NHS Scotland to provide solutions for other regions, health boards and countries.

It is also set to go to market with a new software solution, ‘Archie’, which aims to reduce the number of hospital outpatient appointments required to triage skin conditions. This fast and secure clinical photography solution for GPs and consultants will be a game-changer.

Testimonial

It’s a very exciting time and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

The number one reason that Abingdon was the right partner for us is that its ‘buy and hold’ model means we can retain our independence. It became clear that all the organisations in their portfolio have autonomy, which is something we were also looking for. They’re here to support us but they’re not going to change anything fundamental.

Our ongoing relationship with the NHS is crucial and Abingdon will help us expand on this without changing the elements that have made it so successful. We’ve achieved everything through networking and word of mouth, and with Abingdon’s support we can confidently continue to do this, but on a much wider scale.
